Design Your Own Van Ramp
The Ramp People can manufacture van ramps to any
size or shape to your specific requirements and design. Regardless of what van you have: Sprinter, Vivaro, Inveco, Vito, Expert, Traffic, Crafter, Ducato, Berlingo, Courier etc we can supply the best van ramps on the market. Generally we can supply ramps from stock for a guaranteed next day UK mainland delivery. However if you have a specialist application then you may require a custom built van ramp.
When designing
your van ramp there are several considerations to make with regard to the
size and type of equipment to be loaded. The following is designed as a
guide on how to design a van ramp that is perfect for your
application. Of course our technical team are always on hand to assist
with your requirements, for friendly and helpful advice please call

Width- Will the equipment being loaded easily track up and down the ramp ?
Narrower ramps are not only lighter and more manageable but have a
lower cost as well
Edges or No Edges- Heavy Duty Van Ramps from The Ramp People have as standard
kerbs/edges that protrude up from the ramp to prevent accidentally
wheeling off. However this safety feature is a no cost option and our
truck ramps can be manufactured without these edges as they can
interfere with wheeled equipment
Length- Ensure that the length of the ramp is sufficient to prevent grounding
out and allow a shallow incline. A 30% gradient or 16.5 degrees should
not be exceeded. See our Ramp FAQs page for more information on this or contact the team for free advice
It is vital to consider the length of the equipment being loaded
and the length of the ramp required so that the equipment does not
bottom out at the top of the incline. When loading equipment on 2
axles/4 wheels it is important to note the length of the overhang to
the front wheel of the equipment to ensure that the ramp incline does
not exceed the gap below the equipment before it meets the first wheel
Capacity - Consider the weight of the equipment being loaded
It is also important to calculate the maximum weight that the ramp
will be subjected to. If the equipment being loaded has wheels then the
point load the surface will receive at each wheel needs to be
considered. The Ramp People Heavy Duty truck ramps are designed to
withstand a spread load of 1000kgs with a point load of 500kgs
Ramp Surface- The Ramp People offer a surface which is guaranteed for life. This
surface is a high grade aluminum extrusion that has serrated ribs that
run across the ramp which produces high levels of lateral traction
regardless of the weather
Ramp Storage - Ensure that you have sufficient room in your vehicle to store the size of the ramps required
Connection - The Ramp People can offer several different connection options, please contact the team for more information
Hook Connection - This design allows the ramp to hook onto a round bar or into an upturned channel, see the image below
Rest On Connection- Our standard and most popular connection for both van ramps and truck
ramps. This connection means that no modification to the vehicle is
required, see the image below
Bespoke Connections - We can manufacture bespoke connections to your requirements or specifications, just speak to one of our team
