A new electric ‘tank’ wheelchair has just been released by a Japanese company, Nano-Optics technology.
Designed to look like a sofa, it runs on rubber tracks instead of wheels. This makes the wheelchair incredibly moveable and versatile. The wheelchair can turn a complete 360° easily within the confines of a lift, and can climb an 18cm threshold – thereby eliminating the need for a wheelchair ramp!
All of the details of the design of this wheelchair have been carefully thought of. There is a handy cup holder in the arm rest, and the seat of the chair tilts by 30° to help users to get into and out of the wheelchair. When going up and down inclines, the seat also tilts to accommodate the movement, keeping the user level and secure in their seat.
However, for the foreseeable future, wheelchair users in this country will have to rely on The Ramp People for their portable wheelchair ramps, since the ‘Tiny Tank’ will only be available to care facilities and hospitals. We look forward to seeing these wonderful inventions in our hospitals soon!
