Adjustable Half Step with Handrails: A Safer Mobility Solution for Home Access

Our Adjustable Half Step with Handrails provides extra stability and confidence for people who find everyday steps, thresholds and raised entrances difficult to manage. The adjustable mobility step helps reduce the height of a step, while the optional handrails provide additional support when stepping up or down.

For many people, a small change in level can become a significant challenge. Whether it is a doorway threshold, patio step, entranceway or another raised area around the home, finding a safe and practical way to improve access can make a huge difference to everyday independence.

According to UK government statistics, as of May 2026, there were over 350,000 residents living in care homes across the UK. While care homes provide essential support, many people would prefer to continue living independently at home, with suitable adaptations and mobility aids helping them do so safely. Adapting your home with the right mobility solutions can play a vital role in helping people maintain their independence and improve access, while allowing users to move around their homes more safely.

Our Adjustable Mobility Half Step has become one of our most popular solutions, helping customers overcome awkward step heights with a simple, stable and versatile design.

Helping Reduce the Challenges of Steps and Thresholds

Mobility steps can help reduce the difficulty of managing steps and doorways, particularly for those who find lifting their leg onto higher surfaces increasingly challenging.

This may be due to higher-than-standard steps or conditions such as arthritis, sciatica or the effects of a stroke, which can affect balance, movement and confidence.

Reducing the risk of falls is especially important for older adults, as falls can lead to injuries that may affect independence and recovery. Falls remain a significant concern for older adults. Public Health Studies from 2017 - 2018 show there were over 220,000 emergency hospital admissions related to falls in patients over 65. Falls can also have a significant impact on confidence, with some people becoming less willing to move around their homes freely.

For those living with conditions such as osteoporosis, where bones become weaker and more vulnerable to fractures, creating a safer home environment is particularly important. It is estimated over 3 million in the UK have osteoporosis, making safer home environments particularly important. Designed to provide extra support and confidence, the Adjustable Mobility Half Step offers a practical solution for making everyday access easier and safer.

Introducing Half Steps with Handrails

Adjustable half step with single handrail Adjustable half step with single handrail

We are pleased to introduce an exciting new addition: handrails that can be used alongside the half step to provide even greater support, stability and confidence for users.

The new half-step handrails can be used with Adjustable Half Step, Adjustable Half Step Black or Metal Half Step.

Customers can choose to purchase with no handrails, a single handrail or dual handrails. For example, if you already have grab rails installed on a wall on your property, you may find a single handrail is the best option for you.

If you already own one of the half steps and now wish to add handrails you can order the handrails alone.

The handrails include fixing points to allow you to secure the step with rails to the ground where preferred.

They are easy to assemble using the Allen key provided and are designed to work alongside mobility aids, including walking sticks, canes, zimmer frames and rollators.

The half step handrails are compatible with our standard, medium and large half steps, providing a flexible access solution for a wide range of users.

Product Questions

What is a mobility half step with handrails?
A mobility half step with handrails is a low-height access step designed to make everyday steps easier to manage. The handrails provide additional balance and support when stepping up or down, helping users feel more confident around doorways, patios, and entrances.
Who can benefit from an adjustable half step with handrails?
Adjustable half steps with handrails can benefit those who need extra support and stability, including the elderly, those with reduced mobility, those recovering from surgery and those with conditions such as arthritis, sciatica and parkinsons.
Which size half step should I purchase?
The standard half steps are designed for those walking or using walking sticks. The large half steps are for those using walking sticks and walking frames. The extra-large half steps are recommended for those using rollators and tri-walkers.
Can the half steps with handrails be left outside?
Yes, the half steps are designed for outdoor use. The adjustable half step offers a PGR self-draining surface to ensure water quickly drains from the step, whilst the anti-rust zinc-coated alloy frame ensures a reliable long-lasting solution.
Do the half steps fit UK doorways?
Yes, the British-manufactured steps are designed with UK doorways in mind. The standard and large steps are 760mm wide. Building Regulations require the main entrance to be at least 775mm wide so the step should fit your doorway. We do always recommend checking the space available prior to purchase.
