Product Questions

What is a Threshold Ramp?
A Threshold Ramp is a type of mobility ramp designed to overcome lower heights, including door thresholds, single steps and kerbs. Threshold ramps can be in a wedge shape to overcome a step or a bridge design to go up and over a doorframe or threshold. They are typically manufactured from rubber or aluminium.
What are Threshold Ramps used for?
Threshold Ramps are designed to allow mobility aids including wheelchairs, mobility scooters and rollators to overcome steps, kerbs and doorways.
What should I check before purchasing a threshold ramp?
Always check the height of the step or door threshold to identify which height ramp you need. It is also important to check the usable width of the area to ensure the ramp will fit. Check the space from the door outwards to ensure the ramp will fit and that the user will safely be able to exit the ramp. If there is limited space in front of the doorway, you may wish to look for a ramp with multiple exit points, such as a Modular Threshold Ramp.
Which Threshold Ramps can be left outside?
For external use we suggest viewing the rubber threshold ramp, Drive-in Ramp or Adjustable Threshold Ramps.
Which Threshold Ramp is the lightest?
The lightest Threshold Ramp is the Ultra-Lightweight Threshold Ramp.
How wide should a threshold ramp be?
It is important to check the width of your mobility aid to ensure it will comfortably fit on the threshold ramp. Also check the usable width of the space available, such as the width of the doorway to ensure the ramp will fit.
Which threshold ramps are designed for double doorways?
For use with double doorways, we recommend choosing a ramp with a straight edge design. The Rubber Threshold Ramps and Ultra-Lightweight Threshold Ramps offer a straight edge design allowing multiple units to be placed side by side to cover wider areas.
Do threshold ramps need to be fixed in place?
The majority of threshold ramps simply rest in position.
What is the best material for a Threshold Ramp?
The best material depends on what you are using the ramp for. If you wish to leave the threshold ramp outside, generally an aluminium or rubber solution is best. If you are seeking a lightweight solution, a foam or aluminium solution is preferable.
What is the difference between a wheelchair ramp and threshold ramp?
A threshold ramp is a type of wheelchair ramp. Ramps titled as threshold ramps are generally designed for lower heights.
Are threshold ramps suitable for rollators and walking frames?
Yes, most threshold ramps are designed for use with mobility aids including rollators and walking frames. Always check the exact product description prior to purchase to ensure the threshold ramp you are viewing is suitable for your needs.
Can threshold ramps be used by vehicles such as cars and motorbikes?
The Rubber Threshold Ramps offer a 1,000kg capacity and can be used by light vehicles including smaller cars and motorbikes.
