What is a shower stool?

A shower stool is a mobility aid designed to assist those with limited mobility, the elderly, those with long-term conditions, and those recovering from surgery to shower independently. Shower stools allow users to sit whilst showering, providing a safe place for users to rest and reduce the risk of slips and falls.

Who can benefit from using a shower stool?

A shower stool is often beneficial for those with limited mobility the elderly, those with long-term conditions, and those recovering from surgery. Shower stools are designed to reduce the risk of falls, manage fatigue and maintain independence. Shower stools are commonly used by those who suffer from fatigue, joint pain, leg pain, arthritis, COPD, those with balance issues and similar.

What is the difference between a shower stool and a shower chair?

Both a shower stool and shower chair are designed to provide a safe place for users to sit whilst taking a shower. They are generally height adjustable to meet the users needs. Designed for use in the shower, they have stable rubber feet to ensure they remain in place during use and a self-draining surface. Unlike shower stools, shower chairs generally also feature handrails and a backrest for enhanced support.

How do I choose the right shower stool or shower chair?

To identify the right shower stool or shower chair, check what seat height you require, seat width and your weight. We also recommend checking the space available in the bath or shower. Consider what features you need based on your abilities; for example, a backrest is beneficial for those who suffer from fatigue or muscle weakness. A chair with arms should be considered if you need support standing up after sitting for periods of time.

What height shower stool do I need?

When seated on the stool, your feet should rest flat on the shower floor, with your knees bent comfortably at roughly a right angle. Your hips should be around the same height as, or slightly higher than, your knees. All of our shower stools and shower chairs are height adjustable to allow you to sit comfortably.

Shower Stools and Chairs for Bathrooms and Wet Rooms

Our range of lightweight, height-adjustable shower stools and chairs are designed to help you feel more comfortable, safe and confident in the bathroom. We understand that one type of shower seating does not suit every user, which is why we offer a wide range of solutions to help you choose the option that best matches your needs, abilities and bathroom space.

Choose a folding shower stool if you need occasional support or have limited bathroom space, as they provide a convenient seating solution that can be stored away when not in use. A swivel shower stool can be ideal for users with reduced mobility or those recovering from surgery, as the rotating seat helps reduce the need to twist, stretch or overreach whilst showering.

For users who require more stability and comfort, a shower chair with a backrest provides additional support to help maintain posture and reduce the risk of losing balance when seated whilst allowing for side transfers. If standing up from a seated position is difficult due to arthritis, muscle weakness or low blood pressure, a shower chair with armrests can provide extra support when lowering down and getting back up.
