Outrigger Pads for Every Application: Discover Our Expanded Range
At The Ramp People, we’re excited to announce the expansion of our outrigger pad range with the introduction of our own branded outrigger stabiliser pads. Available in four convenient sizes and offering load capacities of up to 25,000kg, these high-performance pads are designed to enhance on-site safety, improve machine stability, and protect the ground beneath your equipment.
Engineered for strength and durability, our new stabiliser pads provide a reliable solution for a wide range of applications, helping operators set up with confidence across varied ground conditions.
What is an Outrigger Pad?
An outrigger pad is generally a square or circular mat which is placed under the outrigger on heavy machinery such as a mobile crane, telehandler, recovery vehicle, or agricultural equipment.
They are designed to evenly distribute the pressure from the outrigger, reducing the risk of the machine leaning or sinking into the ground beneath. In turn, they help protect the ground from damage and improve site safety.
Are Outrigger Pads a Legal Requirement in the UK?
In the UK, the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) require companies to ensure lifting equipment and work equipment are used safely. Stabiliser pads / outrigger pads can assist with this.
It is also important to note that under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), companies are required to regularly inspect and maintain work equipment.
Outrigger pads should be cleaned after use to remove any debris and liquids. We recommend regularly checking them for signs of damage, wear, and cracks, and replacing them when needed.
What material are outrigger pads made from?
Outrigger pads are available in various materials, including high-density polyethylene (HDPE), ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), wood, steel, and aluminium.
Unlike wooden pads, HDPE and UHMWPE pads are resistant to water, oils, and chemicals, making them ideal for use in industrial environments. They also do not splinter. Unlike metal pads, HDPE and UHMWPE pads do not corrode over time.
Is ground preparation required prior to using outrigger pads?
Before using crane pads, it is recommended that a site and ground assessment is undertaken to ensure it is safe to use the pads. For instance, whilst crane pads can often be used on uneven terrain, additional ground preparation may be required for extreme slopes or very rough ground.
The size of the pad required is also affected by the ground conditions where you are using it. For example, on soft ground such as wet soil, a larger pad is usually recommended to spread the weight over a greater area.
It is important the outrigger is always located in the centre of the mat.
Introducing The Ramp People’s New Outrigger Pads
At The Ramp People, we have introduced two new types of outrigger pad. One pad is made from recycled materials, while the other is manufactured from virgin materials.
Both are manufactured from UHMWPE, are available in a selection of four sizes, and offer capacities of up to 25,000kg.
The portable stabiliser pads feature a carry handle and are stackable, making them easy to move and store.
erfect for use in industrial environments, they are resistant to water, oils, and chemicals.
Outrigger mats are essential for site safety. For higher capacities up to 100,000kg, please view the TuffTrak® Outrigger Crane Pads.
