Walkways and Gangways
What are pedestrian walkway and vehicle gangways?
In contrast to ramps, walkways or gangways are designed to be used between 0% and 5% gradients. Industrial or commercial environments can benefit from pedestrian walkways or vehicle gangways that can either be purchased off the shelf or custom-built.
Why should I consider a pedestrian walkway?
Pedestrian walkways in industrial environments provide safe and designated paths for workers to navigate through potentially hazardous areas, such as factories or warehouses. These walkways help to prevent accidents and injuries by keeping pedestrians separate from vehicular traffic and providing clear guidance for movement throughout the facility.
What are the benefits of vehicle gangways?
Vehicle gangways provide the advantage of being specifically tailored to the needs of the industrial environment. Custom-built gangways can be designed to accommodate the specific dimensions, load requirements, and mobility needs of the facility, ensuring optimal safety and efficiency. Additionally, these gangways can be equipped with features such as handrails, further enhancing the protection and well-being of workers in industrial settings.
What options are available for pedestrian walkways?
The Ramp People's range of aluminium pedestrian walkways are, as the name suggests, designed for pedestrians to use as a bridge to cross excavations and trenches. The trench bridges have a maximum loading capacity of 400kgs/m2 and range from 1260mm - 6055mm long. The handrails on the sides of the walkways are 1018mm high when deployed, and fold in on themselves for ease of transportation. They can also be removed completely.
Please note that the walkway bridge should never be used at more than a maximum gradient of 5%. For steeper slopes, see the aluminium pedestrian bridge ramps.
Aluminium pedestrian bridge ramps can overcome height differences caused by construction or public works. They have a maximum loading capacity of 400kgs/m2 and range from 990mm - 5790mm long. The handrails on the sides of the walkways are 1018mm high when deployed, and fold in on themselves for ease of transportation. They can also be removed completely. The raised edges are 200mm high.
Please note that the ramp should never be used at more than 8% gradient. They are available in heights ranging from 80mm - 460mm.
What options are available for vehicle gangways?
The Ramp People's vehicle ramps are fabricated from precision engineered aluminium and have a capacity of up to 4500kgs, depending on the ramp length. Vehicle trench bridges are available in lengths from 990mm – 5790mm and widths of 1000mm and 1250mm. The handrails on the sides of the bridge / walkways are 1018mm high when deployed, and fold in on themselves for ease of transportation. They can also be removed completely. The raised edges are 200mm high.
Please be aware that these trench bridges are designed for a minimum rubber footprint of 200mm x 200mm. The maximum load distribution on vehicle axles should be between 40% and 60%.

Please be aware that these ramp are designed for a minimum rubber footprint of 200mm x 200mm. The maximum distribution of load on vehicle axles should be between 40% and 60%. These ramps are only suitable for use at a maximum gradient of up to 5%. You will also need to ensure that there is at least a 330mm rest on either side of the excavation for the ramp to rest upon.
