Adjustable Access - The Flexibility of Modular Ramp Systems!

The Flexibility of Modular Ramp Systems

The Ramp People's Modular Ramp Systems are a really flexible solution that can be used in a large variety of places. Whether you need them for home use or for a commercial building, these modular ramps offer unparalleled customisation to fit almost any building entrance. This means they are great for places where a portable or temporary solution would not be sufficient but a fully permanent ramp cannot be used either.

Our Modular Ramp Systems are a great, cost-effective solution that can be built in one location and assembled at your location. We won’t even need to undergo a site visit to provide a solution. All you need to do is prove us with photos, measurements and sketches for us to work out what will work best for your needs! As the modular ramp systems can be built in a multitude of ways you do not need to have the ramp coming straight out from the door. For areas with more limited space or complicated angles, the ramp can zigzag down to reduce the area it takes up or be built to go around the edge of the building. Check out some examples below:

Modular Ramps with turning platforms and landings

It is our platforms that allow the ramp systems to be built in this way and what gives them such great flexibility to fit your needs depending on your location. As well as creating a safe and secure entrance to your building, they allow you to create bends in the ramp. This means you can create 90-degree bends or U-turns to allow the ramps to fit into limited spacing. It also allows the ramp to run alongside the building to take up less space in front of the building. There are almost an unlimited number of options on how to have the systems set up.

Turning platforms are beneficial for wheelchair users as it provides a safe place to take a break and to providing a stable area for users to sit whilst opening and closing the door, without the risk of rolling back down the ramp.

For those seeking to comply to the UK's Part M building regulations, a turning platform, also referred to as a landing, is an essential requirement. Part M requires intermediate landings to be provided between individual flights and any change of direction. The required length of a landing is generally required to be at least 900mm - 1500mm in length depending on the location.

Height adjustable designs

All of the supplied kits come with adjustable legs to allow the ramp to be created to provide a safe, smooth and gradual gradient which the user is comfortable with. The adjustable ramp design means they can be extended in length lengths, removed and re-used elsewhere.

Options with or without handrails

Whilst businesses seeking to comply to the Equality Act 2010 generally opt for an access ramp with handrails, for residential homes, handrails are not always needed. We offer solutions with or without handrails to allow you to select a solution based on our needs. We also offer balustrade handrails which provide enhanced safety in areas where younger children are using the ramp such as in schools and hospitals.

Solutions for lower heights

For low threshold heights, our miniramps are available. Miniramps are perfect for areas where space is limited, for example if a user comes out of their front door and needs to take an immediate left or right turn due to a wall or to ensure they remain on the pathway. They are a popular choice for homes where the doorway is located on the side of the property or in gardens with a limited patio area.

Easy to install

Ultimately, wheelchair ramps for semi-permanent use are made to be a portable and temporary fix, however, they are built to last years so can be left in place “permanently” for as long as you need them. The flexibility comes with the fact that they can be taken down easily once they are no longer needed. This means they can also be used for another building/area with some adjustments. Designed as semi-permanent solutions, they do not generally require planning permission, nor do they require alterations to the property. Modular ramps can normally be installed by a general handyman or builder in under a day. To learn more, view our Modular Ramp installation guide.

Claiming VAT Relief

VAT relief is available across all of our mobility aids including wheelchair ramps, threshold ramps, half steps, rollators, wheelchairs. In the UK, people with long-term disabilities do not have to pay VAT on mobility aids. Registered charities also do not have to pay VAT on these items. When you add the item to your basket simply complete your VAT exemption details in the VAT relief box to purchase the ramp without the VAT. It is a self-declaration, we simply require the user's full name and disability. You do not need to send over any paperwork as evidence, nor do you need to be registered as disabled or claim benefits.
