What is the benefit of a half step?

A half step often makes it easier for those with limited mobility to overcome steps, doorways and entrances. The half step can assist to breaks down the height different between ground level and the door threshld into two more manageable heights.

Half steps can also help to increase the confidence of users who have previously had difficulties to overcome steps and heights. In some instances half steps are used where space is limited and therefore it is not possible to install a ramp. Please note the half step is not suitable for mobility scooters and wheelchair users so please do consider who will be using the half step.

Where can the half step be used?

The Ramp People's half steps are suitable for indoor and outdoor use and can be left outside.

Is it safe to use the half-step in wet weather?

All of our half steps are suitable for indoor or outdoor use, including wet weathers. Our half steps offer a GRP open mesh surface which is highly slip resistant and suitable to be used in all weathers. The step is also self draining. Please do of course take caution in wet or icy weathers and consider your own abilities. The Adjustable Mobility Step with Handrails also offers a self-draining surface.

Is VAT relief available on half steps?

As a mobility aid the half step is eligible for VAT relief for those with long term disabilities and charities. When you add the item to your basket enter your details in the VAT relief box to remove the VAT.

What warranty is available on the half steps?

The half steps are provided with a 1 or 2 year warranty, please see the individual product for the warranty provided.

Should I purchase a half step or wheelchair ramp?

This does depend on your requirements, abilities and the space available. If you are unsure our team is available throughout the week to provide technical advice and guidance based on your situation.

A ramp is often preferable for businesses as it makes the business accessible to more users, including those using wheelchairs and mobility scooters. For homes, a half step may be preferred where space is limited and a ramp is not viable or for smaller height differences where you are seeking to simply make a step more manageable.

What heights can the half step be used at?

What is the GRP surface?

GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Plastic, it is an extremely durable but light surface. GRP is renowned for being able to withstand poor weather conditions and to last for many years. In addition GRP is corrosion-resistant.

I am unsure whether to purchase the step with handrails, can handrails be added at a later date?

Yes, if you are purchasing a half step which is compatible with handrails the handrails can be purchased separately at a later date, please contact our team for a quote.

Can the half steps be secured to the ground?

If you wish to secure the half step to the ground please view the half steps which are offered with or without handrails (Adjustable Half Step with Handrail or Adjustable Mobility Step with Handrail), these have fixing points to allow you to secure the steps to the ground.

Can rollators be used on half steps?

Yes, some half steps are suitable for rollators, you will need to view the extra large half steps and check your rollator size to ensure suitability.

Can half steps be used in the bathroom or used to access the shower?

For use in the bathroom or shower, we recommend viewing the bath steps as these as specifically designed for this use.

What is the difference between the bath steps and half steps?

The bath steps are generally manufactured from plastic and therefore much lighter and easier to move to allow you to lift and clean beneath when required. They are generally provided in white or blue and white to reduce the risk of trip hazards and fit in with the bathroom. The outdoor half steps are usually made from plastic or metal.

We offer free delivery on all orders to Mainland England, Wales, and Southern Scotland. Every order is fully trackable, and you’ll receive a tracking link once your item ships from our UK warehouse.

For other UK locations - including Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, the Highlands, Islands, Isle of Man, and Channel Islands - delivery charges are shown at checkout once your address is entered.

While free delivery is available to most of the UK, some locations may incur a charge. We work hard to keep these costs as low as possible, ensuring you receive reliable and great-value delivery wherever you are.

Delivery time frames

Our deliveries usually take place between 7:00am and 7:00pm, and someone will need to be there to sign for the order. Most next day delivery orders placed before 3:00pm arrive the following working day; however, while we always aim to meet this timeframe, it cannot be guaranteed. If your order is going out on a pallet, the cut-off time might be a little earlier (usually midday) because of courier collection times. Give us a call or email to double check. If there’s a problem, contact us right away at 01372 569051. For damaged goods, please email a photo to [email protected] so we can sort things quickly. We’ll verify your order and arrange prompt delivery of the correct item, along with collection of the original if needed. Refunds or replacements will be processed once we’ve received and checked the returned items.

Faulty items

If the fault is confirmed and the item is within warranty, we’ll arrange a repair or replacement. How to return your item

As the customers, you are responsible for arranging the return of any items to us. You are welcome to use a courier service of your choice; many of our customers find comparison websites such as Parcel2Go helpful for finding competitive delivery rates. We recommend choosing a tracked service for peace of mind and retaining proof of delivery until your return has been fully processed. Unwanted items should be sent back to our address marked 'Returns Department'.

Does the half step need to be secured to the ground when used with the handrails?

The half steps are very sturdy and do not have to be secured to the ground. A bracket is provided for those who do wish to secure them in position.

How do you secure the adjustable step with handrails to the ground?

A bracket is provided with the handrails to allow you to fix it in position. The bracket has a 6mm countersunk hole, allowing you to secure the step to concrete or tarmac.

Do I need to purchase handrails for the adjustable half step?

The adjustable half steps can be used with or without handrails. Adding handrails provides essential stability and support for a variety of users.
