What are rollators used for?

Rollators are designed to assist people with limited mobility, providing support for walking and improving balance. Rollators help boost confidence and independence by offering support while moving around. Many models come with a built-in seat, offering a convenient place to rest when needed during daily activities, whether at home or outdoors. Depending on the model, rollators may also feature bags or trays, making it easier to transport items like groceries or carry a drink from one room to another.

Who should not use a rollator?

Rollators are not recommended for individuals with severe balance issues or muscle weakness to the point where they cannot stand or walk, even with the support of the rollator. If you're unsure whether a rollator is appropriate for your needs, it’s a good idea to consult a doctor or Occupational Therapist for advice.

How do you adjust the rollator handle height?

Most rollators have adjustable handles that can be set to a range of heights. Please refer to the product details for specific height options. To find the correct height, stand upright next to the rollator. The handles should be level with your wrists, allowing you to comfortably grip them while walking.

Is VAT relief available on rollators?

Yes, VAT relief is available for individuals with long-term disabilities in the UK and registered UK charities. To claim, simply enter your VAT relief details at checkout, and the VAT charge will be removed before purchase.

Which are the lightest rollators? 

The lightest rollators are the carbon fibre rollators. Lighter rollators are often beneficial for those who struggle to lift their rollator over steps and kerbs and for individuals who wish to lift the rollator into the car boot. We offer a range of carbon fibre rollators, including the Drive AeroWalk Carbon Rollator at 4.1kg (excluding accessories) or the Rehasense Space CF Carbon Rollator, which is 4.9kg (excluding the bag). 

What warranty is provided on the rollators?

All of our rollators come with at least a 1-year warranty. However, some models offer warranties of 2 or 7 years. Please check the specific product details for more information.

Can an outdoor rollator be used inside?

Yes, an outdoor rollator can be used indoors. However, many people prefer to have a separate rollator for indoor use to avoid bringing in dirt or debris from outside. 

What is the benefit of purchasing an indoor rollator specifically for use indoors?

Many prefer to have a different rollator for use indoors and outdoors as they do not wish to bring dirt in the home or clean the rollator each time. We have a range of rollators designed specifically for indoor use. The indoor rollators, such as the Space I Indoor Rollator, are generally narrower, making them ideal for going through doorways in the home and navigating tight spaces. They also offer various features which are more commonly needed in the home, such as a tray to carry plates and cups from room to room and an accessory bag to easily carry phones, keys or medicine. The Saljol Indoor Rollator is designed to support users weight, ideal for those who often feel unsteady and need a place to sit whilst moving around the home. There are also often various other mobility aids on the market such as Height Adjustable Mobility Trolleys which are a simple trolley with trays designed those who struggle to safely carry plates and cups from one room to another. 

What should I consider when choosing which rollator is best for me?

When choosing the best rollator for you, there are several key factors to keep in mind to ensure it meets your needs including what seat width you require, what handle height you require, whether you wish to use the rollator indoors or outdoors and whether you require a seat and bag.

Some useful things to consider when selecting a rollator would be whether you wish to use the rollator inside or outside, if you would like a seat and backrest and bag, what seat width you require and what handle height you require.

How easy is it to use the brakes on a rollator?

The brakes on the rollators are designed to be simply to use, for example, many of the Rehasense range offer a brake lever which is designed to be operated with little effort. Other rollators have the option to adjust the brakes to allow you to easily control the force needed to stop the rollator. Rollators commonly offer slow-down brakes and parking brake functions along with  some offering one-handed brake functions for those with limited mobility. For example the Saljol Allround Rollator can have a one-handed brake system added, ideal for those who have suffered from a stroke or have limited mobility on one side. 

What is the lightest aluminium rollator available? 

For outdoor rollators, the 3-wheeled aluminium rollator is the lightest solution at only 4.7kg. If you are seeking a four-wheeled rollator, the Lets Move Rollator is only 5.4kg. If you are looking for an indoor rollator, the Rehasense Pixel Rollator is the lightest solution at 5.2kg. 

Which rollator is best for users who struggle when overcoming kerbs? 

The Saljol Allround Rollator offers a tipping aid behind the rear wheels to enhance stability and assist users to overcome steps and thresholds. 

Do The Ramp People offer bariatric rollators? 

Yes The Ramp People offer a range of bariatric rollators which offer a higher capacity than standard rollators and a wider seat width for comfort. The Rehasense Server XC Explorer offers a 200kg capacity and 530mm seat width. The EZ Fold N Go Heavy Duty Rollator has a 226kg capacity and a 530mm seat width. The Heavy Duty Rollator offers a 227kg capacity and 460mm seat width. The Saljol Bariatric Rollators offer a 180kg capacity and 520mm seat width, including the Saljol Allround Bariatric Rollator and Saljol Carbon Bariatric Rollator.
